The arms with the checkered eagle has been a symbol of Moravia since the 13th century and is documented in a number of medieval and early modern armorials. Like many other arms at the time, the crest may vary between depictions, and this one is based on the 13th century wall paintings in Gozzoburg castle, Austria.
